GIVEAWAY!

I'm doing my first ever GIVEAWAY! I made a video ALL ABOUT IT! Watch here:

So, in case you didn't catch it in the video or don't want to watch it, here are the rules for the giveaway:

To be officially "entered" to win something, you must do 1 of 2 things (or both!)
1) Go to one of my shops (www.marjiew.etsy.com OR www.acinom.etsy.com) and find something you REALLY like, come back here and post a link! Don't forget to tell my WHY you like it! (And don't worry, I don't expect you to BUY anything!)
2) Post a minimum of THREE things you do frequently to help the Earth! Please be honest, too! Tell my WHY you do them or what inspired you to do them. So they can be "I use reusable bags, drive a Prius, and drink out of the tap instead of buying bottled water!" Feel free to put down more things - I want to learn other ways to change my lifestyle to help the earth. And remember, Earth day is April 20th!

Each person is allowed TWO entries. They don't have to be both options, you can do two of the same! (ex: pick TWO items from my shop, or post two separate comments on eco-friendly things)

Also, this giveaway is NOT limited to U.S. residents- you can be from anywhere! But the packages I will be sending are small, so they will take a little bit longer to ship. Also, please be aware that First Class International Postage cannot be insured, so there is no guarantee you will receive your item. (it's likely you will, though)

Thanks so much! I will be posting the giveaway items shortly, so stay tuned!

Oh yea! I meant to say "Make LESS of an impact on the environment" not "Make an impact!" haha, oops! Sorry about all the rambling!

  1. What a great idea! The beach bag (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=42604903) is a summer essential! I use those big bags all summer.

As far as "going green" a few things I do are:
    1) recycle everything (literally. we go to the dumb twice a year).
    2)compost/garden
    3)cloth diapering/wipes (I'll admit I've been slacking though)
4)re-usable totes for groceries-I'm actually addicted to buying them!
    5) I make all my own cleaners with no harsh chemicals. Better for you, better for the environment.
    6) we are a 1-car family (does that actually count? I thought we were just broke! haha).

That's more than 3, but you mentioned learning more so if you can learn from what I do, great!

  6. Green things I have been doing include:

    1. Recycling more--I've generally recycled all my adult life but am making an effort to do more. We got a paper shredder so we can recycle personal documents and fortunately live somewhere now where the city picks up pretty much anything recyclable.

    2. Making more food from scratch--we started doing this for other reasons (less money, more yum) but it does reduce the amount of packaging used as well. Between this and recycling, I'm not putting so much in landfills anymore.

    3. Reusing more--for instance, reusing grocery bags as wastepaper basket bags. (I also recycle the grocery bags but sadly have not gotten to the reusable bag stage yet.) Or, if I need to give food or something to someone, I put it in an old jar or plastic tub instead of using a virgin ziploc bag.

    4. I switched to using non-toxic household cleaners as much as possible.

    5. I try to find uses for things before throwing them out, but when I'm certain I'm done with something, I now try to give it away instead of throwing it out, especially if it can't be recycled.

    6. Buying more second-hand goods. This actually stems from my love of vintage things and of saving money, which was born when I went to my first yard sale at age three or so, but I try to do it more now that I am more environmentally conscious.

    7. We switched most of our bulbs to compact fluorescents and try to be more energy conscious in other ways.

    8. I started using the shorter cycle on the dishwasher and using less detergent for the dishwasher and for laundry after reading a recent list of suggestions in the New York Times. Apparently you only need to fill the dishwasher cup 1/8 to 1/2 full to get the same or better results.

  8. As for your other shop, the Colorful Hats on Beige fabric is my favorite. Hm... what could i make with it?

  9. I have more re-usable grocery bags in my car than change! And I actually use them. :) Also trips to the recycling bin happen about every 2 weeks when the recycle-able objects start flowing out of our bin and onto the counter tops....

Marjie, I love everything you find which is why I keep coming back to photograph it!
